Beers for Books! Grab A Beer With Room to Read LA

Ok guys, I originally had a different post scheduled for today, but then the invite for this event popped up in my inbox. So clearly the blog gods had other plans for me.

As you guys may or may not know, books and reading are totally my jam. I can’t even begin to imagine a world where I didn’t have easy access to all the books I could possibly want, or even worse, where I didn’t possess the ability to read them. Sadly, that world is a reality for way too many people, and frankly, that breaks my heart. Luckily there are charities like Room to Read who are working to bring books and education to under-developed countries, and are promoting gender equality in education. Cause girls deserve to receive an education too! Duh. But for many families, they have to make a choice between educating their daughter, or having the means to sustain their household.

While we may not be able to solve their poverty, we can at least help make it so it doesn’t have to be an either or situation. We can help provide the funds for their education and books, so that maybe, the daughters can grow up to have a better chance in this world. Something that we take for granted, but could completely change the lives of those less fortunate.

On that note, here is an easy and fun way to support this great cause! Room to Read LA is hosting a “Beers for Books” event at Golden Road Brewery in Grand Central Market (in downtown LA) on Thursday, November 16, from 6-10pm. 15% of all food and drink purchases will go directly to Room to Read, and all you have to do is show them this flier when you order:

Great beer, great food, and helping a great cause? Sounds like an awesome Thursday night to me! Hope to see all my fellow Los Angelenos there! 🙂
