Cruising Utah’s Scenic Byway 12

Connecting Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon National Parks is Utah’s Scenic Byway 12, voted one of the most scenic drives in America! This road passes through several state parks, national monuments, scenic overlooks, small towns, and nonstop breathtaking views. It has been dubbed the “All American Road,” and after spending a few minutes on this byway, it is easy to see why. Wide open skies, vast plains, deep-cut canyons… this, is the heart of America.

Our journey began at Capitol Reef National Park. Here are just a few of the photos I took along the way:

What road trip is complete without stopping at a random road-side restaurant? Places like this are way more fun than going to a chain restaurant you can find back at home!

Fry sauce! One of those things you can only find in this part of the world. Part mayonnaise, part ketchup. Completely weird. But when in Utah, you gotta try the local cuisine!

Driving Scenic Byway 12 straight from Capitol Reef to Bryce Canyon is about a 2-1/2 hour drive. But with so many beautiful and interesting sites along the way, you will definitely want to allow more time than that. At least half a day to be sure, more if you can. The things you will see on the drive are completely worth taking the extra time.
